Although the First Brigade’s 2005 Command Post Exercise had to be rescheduled twice before it was finally held on Saturday, October 22, the all day training event was the most successful and productive CPX that has been conducted in recent years.
Approximately 350 First Brigade members from the 101st, 102nd and 103rd Battalions met at Brigade Headquarters at Huntsville’s Fort Jackson-Balch Armory for a full day of drills, promotions and awards presentations, classroom training and other training events.
A highlight of the day was a visit by Alabama State Defense Force Commander, Major General Carl Rowe. General Rowe met with members of the 1st Brigade and conferred with Brigade Commander, Colonel Patrick Meagher.
This year’s CPX also was given more media attention than in the past. Huntsville’s three television stations assigned reporters and videographers to cover the event. Advance promotion in the form of press releases was provided to several
media outlets in the 1st Brigade geographical area.
Brigade Commander Colonel Patrick Meagher said that he was pleased with the brigade’s performance at this year’s Command Post Exercise and that he is looking forward to the CPX in 2006.
